Sinopsis
The 18th edition of FIMFA Lx – the International Festival of Puppetry and Animated Forms – will open with Birdie, a multimedia show with live video, objects, a new take on Hitchcock’s film The Birds, scale models, 2000 miniature animals, wars, people traffickers, a massive migration and three artists who deal with this complex and disordered world, with humour, a sense of criticism and a commitment to the human being.
Melilla. Some men are playing golf, and behind them are dozens of immigrants who resemble Hitchcock’s birds, balanced precariously on the top of a fence that they are trying to climb over. This photograph, taken by José Palazón, served as the inspiration for the creation of Birdie, and is analysed in great detail, together with other visual materials, being transformed into both the starting point and the end point for a visionary treatise on migration, amid the movements of galaxies, the flows of information on the Internet, golf and the threat from gangs of birds.
Agrupación Señor Serrano, a theatre company that has always taken careful note of the dangers that may be concealed by an image, sketches the portrait of a present time that is split between the movement of goods and the creation of new walls.
The images created are, in turn, projected onto a screen, altered by hand and shown in real time, together with fragments of Hitchcock’s film, or data and information found on the Internet.
Birdie draws an obvious parallel between Hitchcock’s The Birds and the drama of immigrants. Denunciation, poetry, creativity and originality are the weapons used by the Señor Serrano collective, puppeteers from the digital era, who manipulate video projections, scale models and sounds in real time.
