Sinopsis
In 1983, the duo Telectu wrote an important chapter in our musical history by composing and releasing Belzebu, the first minimal-repetitive work produced in Portugal. In 2018, we will now all go back in time 35 years to celebrate the piece with the solemnity and importance that it deserves: firstly, with the re-release on vinyl of the version corrected by its composers; and then, later, at the Teatro Maria Matos, with this magnificent concert, which brings the complete music and images of Belzebu into our present time.
With the disappearance of Jorge Lima Barreto em 2011, Vitor Rua decided to invite António Duarte (the co-founder of the 1985 musical and multimedia project DWART) to reactivate Telectu and to put into practice the plan to reinterpret some of their more iconographic works. Besides having accompanied and participated in Telectu’s musical career, António Duarte has been acquiring the musical instruments and other accessories linked to the duo’s various phases, so that it is possible for us to now hear Belzebu in its most faithful reproduction, and also to see the visual devices used in the 1983 concerts.
At a time when there is a new and most impressive international interest being shown in the music and discography of Telectu, the chance to see and hear this performance of Belzebu in the present day only serves to reaffirm the importance of the legacy left by Jorge Lima Barreto and Vitor Rua, recovering one of the most striking and defining moments of the new music in Portugal.
