Nature Theater of Oklahoma
Sinopsis
Romeo and Juliet by the Nature Theater of Oklahoma is based on a series of telephone conversations in which people were asked to tell the story of Romeo and Juliet in their own words. Their different versions resulted in some surprising changes to the plot, due to the fact that nobody could remember exactly what the real story was. Who fell in love with whom first? Were they involved with one another sexually? Who killed Mercutio? How did these ill-starred lovers lose one another so tragically? Far from recounting the same story over and over again, the participants reinvented Romeo and Juliet, resorting to fresh, voluptuous details and creating scenes and characters that did not exist in the original version. When their memory fails them, their creativity fills in the gaps, creating highly original stories about love, lust and self-sacrifice.
Last year, No Dice by the Nature Theater of Oklahoma was one of the high spots of the alkantara festival, and was voted one of the top 10 shows of 2008 by Público and Expresso. This is an opportunity to re-encounter (or just simply discover) the most talked about theatre company in New York.
