In Les Estivants (Summerfolk), a group of Russian friends spends the summer in a country dacha. They talk about their children’s education, about love, marriage, literature and life… Yet something is brewing. Maxim Gorky wrote the play in 1905. The story dramatizes the life of the Russian middle class and its position vis-à-vis the social changes taking place at the beginning of the 20th century.
