Sinopsis
Drawing her inspiration from a childhood memory of Sophia de Mello Breyner — who spotted a whale’s skeleton in the attic of her grandparents’ house — Leonor Keil performs a series of choreographic episodes that refer to the process of discovery, development and adaptation of the animal body. Dance becomes a mediating agent of the world, in which the body (and with it its personality) is shaped to the real world, but also transforms it. The costume of the whale, which is a direct allusion to the hoods and crinolines worn in the Azores in the nineteenth century, underlines the games of plasticity taking place between natural and cultural “design” and demonstrates how both of these are subject to processes of change and innovation.
