Sinopsis
At the last anniversary of Scratch Built, Adriana Sá had yet another excellent idea. In that basement, in which one can find one of Lisbon’s most altruistic and fundamental recording studios, various ideas, rough drafts and experiments were being aired in different rooms, but nothing was quite so striking as this quartet, who immediately showed the need to make their manoeuvres official. Combining traditional instruments (piano and drums) with invented instruments (amplified wires and magnetic wires), Adriana Sá has returned to the generous method of working that she shares with Timespine, creating a graphic musical score where the different musicians set sail on a voyage that displays a clear concern with microtonal sounds, deliberately accentuating them with floating tonal centres punctuated by details of percussion. With precise notations about sequence, vocabulary, density and texture, the members of the quartet communicate with one another in an eloquent and serene fashion that, here and there, is given over to their own instincts, creating a temperamental and enchanting sound sculpture, full of sensory dramaturgy. An extremely beautiful exercise in listening: theirs and ours.
