Sinopsis
A homage to Michelangelo Antonioni, 52 Spaces is an intermedia project that combines music and video. Using sounds from the city of Rome and dialogues from the film The Eclipse (1962), as well as 52 frames from the end of that same feature film, Scanner constructs what is, simultaneously, a soundscape and a surreal narrative about a city suspended in time, bringing the visions of the Italian filmmaker into the present digital era. Melancholic and contemplative, the show transmits a sense of loss, reflecting not only the atmospheres, but also the lifestyles, of an urban environment in a state of transformation.
Robin Rimbaud (Scanner) works with sound, space and image, creating works with various layers of elements that use technology in unconventional and unexpected ways. As he is particularly interested in the use of human speech and the noise of contemporary metropolises, his artistic career has been praised by such distinguished figures as Aphex Twin and Karlheinz Stockhausen, while also developing a series of collaborations with such people as Radiohead, Brian Ferry, Laurie Anderson, Merce Cunningham, Michael Nyman, Luc Ferrari and Derek Jarman.
