Sinopsis
On 22 October, 1969, Teatro Maria Matos opened its doors, under the artistic direction of Igrejas Caeiro, bringing to the stage the play Tombo no Inferno, by Aquilino Ribeiro.
Igrejas Caeiro, visibly moved, introduced his colleagues, asking the audience to give a hand to those who built the theatre and called upon Luís de Oliveira Guimarães, who, in the presence of Maria Helena, the daughter of the glorious actress, delivered a eulogy to Maria Matos. He recounted her biography through a series of anecdotes designed to illustrate the actress’s personality (…). The lights went out in the room. A portrait lit the stage and the voice of Mestre Aquilino with its heavy Beira accent spoke of her life and work with the modesty and liberal spirit that characterised him. From what he said, a clear warning filled the room: Cultivate restlessness!
