Sinopsis
They are a group of great and very close friends who together share a musical publishing company where they release their records. Their friendship is so intense that it is natural that, when one of them needs someone to sing, Sam Amidon is called into the studio. And if someone needs a great and reliable rhythm section, perhaps they’ll call Valgeir Sigurðsson. Meanwhile, Nico Muhly will be called for whenever someone is needed to make a good arrangement for a piano or string quartet or any of the countless things that he manages to do so brilliantly, And whenever someone needs to delve into the world of electronics, Ben Frost is the man they’ll send for. It is a practical idea for putting together albums and a record label, but above all it is proof of a beautiful friendship.
It was just a small step to move from here to the organisation of a tour where everyone could share in playing each other’s music. The Whale watching tour first came into being in Iceland and on this day it will be passing through Lisbon, bringing two hours of collective musical celebrations by a group of musicians who have more in common with one another than just their music. It will also be a festival for the senses, with American folk, chamber music and electronic music, resulting in a happy marriage, but one with some surprising collisions.
