Sinopsis

Libertação [Liberation] touches on the most traumatic question of recent Portuguese history, the Overseas or Colonial War, as it was known in Portugal, or the War of Liberation or Independence, as it was known for the purposes of history in Angola, Guinea-Bissau and Mozambique. This show focuses on the African nationalists who fought for their liberation, describing and analysing the independence movements in Africa, in order to better understand the case of Portuguese Colonialism in the world context. Also analysed is the impact that these wars had in Portugal, and their contribution to the fall of fascism. Libertação is a play put together from interviews conducted with people who fought against Portuguese colonialism, and is further completed with archive-based research into wars of liberation and an analysis of the political discourses produced by both sides in the war.
