Sinopsis

Pedro and Solange have an age difference of nine years. They both live in the archipelago of Marvila, but each of them lives on their own island: Solange in the neighbourhood of Alfinetes, and Pedro in the neighbourhood of Armador. They represent two distinct ways of facing the world, relationships and the very means of communication itself. Only one thing seems to bring them closer to one another: the way in which they spend their days closed off from the outside world. In Assembleia [Assembly], they are at the centre of a theatrical experience in which the spectators are members of parliament, or, in other words, they have the right to take part in the debate. There is no vote or veto, it is not possible to say either yes or no, and opinions (when they exist) are not dramatised. There is little to be gained by “taking sides”!

Assembleia [Meeting] is the result of a theatrical experiment that took place in various neighbourhoods in Marvila. It involved continuous work with the two actors in the play and other inhabitants from this urban district, and weekly working sessions were opened to the community in the neighbourhoods of Amendoeiras (the Amendoeiras residents’ association), Armador (Espaço LxJovem) and Loios (Loios Community Development Centre) and at the Biblioteca Municipal de Marvila.
