Sinopsis

An installation/performance based on the poetic sense of the idea of departure and of a spatial and emotional movement away from a specific place, the Avenida de Roma train station, taken as an axis of ephemeral crossovers and as a stop where memories and narratives can alight. Departure establishes a symbolic link between the sound and visual material gathered from the train station (the exterior) and its projection, once it has been processed and treated, at Teatro Maria Matos (the interior).

This project brings two duos together – that of Carlos Santos and Emídio Buchinho, working on The Pistoletto Venus project, in a transposition of the concepts of arte povera into music, and that of Carlos Santos and João Silva – and combines them into one intermediate trio. Having built his career in the area of electroacoustics, Santos normally works with “found sounds” and field recordings, digitally processing the materials that he has been slowly gathering together. In parallel to this, he also works as a designer, being the author of the album covers for the Creative Sources record label. As one of the most important sound engineers in Portuguese cinema, and despite the fact that he is also an accomplished guitarist, Buchinho has named the microphone as his main instrument. A visual artist and a video artist, Silva also devotes himself to sound creations, ranging from the manipulation of objects and small percussions to a series of electronic operations.
