Sinopsis
While we were receiving Muxama, Norberto Lobo’s album from 2016, we were listening — as has always been the case — to the future of his music. This was what also happened at Maria Matos, when we welcomed him here in November of that same year. These songs, played with two hands, a voice and lots of feet, kept appearing in the midst of Muxama as if they were offshoots sprouting from the ashes announcing the good news. For a brief moment, we thought that this would be the material for his new album, but Norberto Lobo had other plans for Estrela (Star): for many months, he joined forces with Ricardo Jacinto, Marco Franco and Yaw Tembe — at first in different duos, then in trios, and lastly in the final line-up as a quartet — to create new arrangements and a new family for his compositions. Studiously and meticulously, Norberto was establishing very close relationships between his guitar and a cello, trumpet and drums, creating a collaborative ensemble that amplified the magic of the music that we were listening to. For Norberto, this is the realisation of a dream that he has been nurturing for some time; for our own part, all we have to do is dream.
