Cão Solteiro stages something and yet doesn’t stage anything. A Portugueza marks the end of a cycle of three shows that began in 2008. It will be the last of three “boxes” suggested by the work of the American artist Joseph Cornell (1903-1977). Once again, and, as is the group’s wont, they requested the collaboration of a visual artist. In A Portugueza, the following elements are stuffed inside a “black box”: a piano, a master class in singing, a pianist, a teacher, a singer, four actors, a National Anthem, some discordant melodies and an uncertain philharmonic apotheosis. At the end, all that is left is the box and the piano. Cão Solteiro doesn’t stage anything other than the place. “Rien n’aura eu lieu que le lieu”.
