Sinopsis

“For me, reading her diaries is like feeling the pulse of Sylvia Plath”, wrote Sonia Wieder-Atherton on the initial impetus to create the show The Night Dances. After discovering a common desire to work together with the actress Charlotte Rampling, the cellist imagined Plath’s poetry spoken by Rampling, whose voice she considers to have a tone close to the sound of the cello, perfect for conveying “the radical, lonely voice” of the writer. Intuitively, she eventually concluded that the musical correspondence was to be found in the Cello Suites by Benjamin Britten.
