Sinopsis

In The Role of Affects in Agonistic Politics, philosopher Chantal Mouffe will present her agonistic model of democratic politics emphasizing the role of affects. Her conception of politics asserts that in the eld of politics one always deals with collective identities and with the construction
of an us/them relation. The construction of the ‘us’ requires the mobilization of ‘common a ects’ and this is what Mouffe understands by ‘passions’. What is at stake in an agonistic democracy is the construction of us/them in terms of adversaries.

Presentation in the scope of the network House on Fire with the support of the Culture Program of the European Union
