Tânia Carvalho programme

Over the past 20 years, choreographer Tânia Carvalho has formed one of the most remarkable and fascinating bodies of work in Portuguese contemporary dance. Converging various territories of artistic expression in her creations, including dance, musical composition, drawing, painting and cinematic memory, she has weaved a universe that is both enigmatic and consistent, shining like a taciturn diamond.

The Maria Matos Theatre, São Luiz Theatre and Camões Theatre | National Ballet of Portugal come together to present a programme that offers an anthological perspective of this 20-year trajectory. Between January and March 2018, these theatres present an interdisciplinary programme that includes a set of formerly presented pieces – although many of them not in Lisbon – ranging from the monumental Icosahedron, which will open this dance cycle, to the more intimate 27 Bones, the premiere of the film A Bag and a Stone, with music by Diogo Alvim, a recent creation with the Dançando com a Diferênça group (Madeira), the participative project Different Movements and a new creation for the National Ballet of Portugal.
