Sinopsis

Towards the end of our last music season, we celebrated the return of Fennesz to our regular programming after we had previously welcomed him with other projects and collaborations. This almost-debut was made with “Mahler Remixes”, a work designed to commemorate the centenary of the death of the Austrian composer, with visceral images by Lillevan. Now that the applause has died down, Fennesz is back for yet another important moment, now performing in a duo with Arve Henriksen – a Norwegian musician with an important discography in his own right, but best known at our theatre for having visited us with Supersilent.

Despite the electronics that he offers us, Henriksen is an outstanding trumpeter and vocalist, giving an acoustic and ethereal velvety touch to Fennesz’ electrified sound waves. An unequal contest, some might say, but what continuously surprises us in this confrontation is the capacity that they both have to communicate, as if in a dialogue, in which each of them knows perfectly well what to say so that the other can be heard, whether we are sailing on a rough sea or transported in pure contemplative delight. Fantastic music between Fennesz’ rock-based discharge and Arve Henriksen’s angelical fragility. And yet few plans are made before they come onto the stage, leaving everything vulnerable to the splendour of their improvisation, as if it were an open path leading to surprise. It is through this almost perfect understanding and the evident growth of these encounters that we can finally discern the promise of an album that is shortly to be released. So soon, in fact, that (who knows?) it may even include a piece of this very night.
